AS Nigerians have been celebrating the discharge of 344 college students of Authorities Senior Secondary College Kankara, Katsina State, kidnapped by bandits,   gunmen, yesterday, took the insecurity scenario within the nation a notch larger.

Customs officers in Apapa Space Command, Lagos intercepted pangolin scales and lion bones weighing 854,719 tonnes which is price N952 million.

The Customs Space Controller of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Abba-Kura, disclosed this throughout a press briefing yesterday, Jan 27.

Abba-Kura mentioned the objects have been billed for export to Vietnam after they have been intercepted.

He added that the contrabands have been in a 20-feet container with quantity CSLU 2362640, heading to Haiphong, Vietnam.

He mentioned the objects, comprising 162 sacks of pangolin scales weighing 8,800kgs and 57 sacks of blended endangered species of varied sizes comparable to ivory/animal horns, lion bones and others have been falsely declared as furnishings parts.

He added that the overall weight of the objects stood at 854,719 tonnes, valued at N952 million.

He mentioned: “On January 21, primarily based on credible intelligence, Customs operatives on the export seat of Apapa command, efficiently detected and arrested one unit of 20-feet container which was processed for export and falsely declared as a furnishings part.

He mentioned that an agent had been arrested and detained after an unnamed girl was picked by operatives.
