The National Secretariat of Gombe State Students Association, GOSSA has expressed worried over non-payment of scholarship to the indigent students for 4-years in the state.

The National President of the Association, Aliyu Sa’ad Hassan made in a statement made available to our Campus correspondent in Gombe on Monday.

” The Gombe State Students’ Association (GOSSA) National Secretariat writes to express the grievance and table the complains of the entire students of the State who have become despondent as a result of the failure of the State Government to pay scholarship dues for the past 4 years” .

He added that ” It is indeed irony that after declaring a State of Emergency in the education sector, the State Government is unable to respond to the call of the students”.

Mr. Hassan noted with concern that ATM cards issued to the students meant for the scholarship will expire without something in return.

” It is no longer news that ATM cards designated for the receipt of the dues will expire very soon. How will these thousands of students feel when the ATM cards expire without receiving anything for the past 4 years? They’ll feel disappointed! ”

The statement further reads ” Payment of this scholarship relates directly to the image and integrity of the State administration.

How can the State Government someday tell students that “Education is the Priority” when scholarship is not paid?

It is the only act that will justify the Government’s prioritizing of the Education sector. Furthermore, it is the only act that will help maintain the faith of students in the present administration”.

” We are calling on the Government to pay Gombe State Students the scholarship . Failing to pay is failing Gombe State Students ” he added.
