President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday charged the 786 graduating students of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) on the application of their knowledge in National development.
Buhari who was represented by the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed gave the charge at the institution’s 2019/2020 Convocation Ceremony in Dutse.
The president urged the graduates to play an active role in making the nation a thing of pride thereby developing good model through their lifestyles in the society.
He however expressed happiness over the level of security sustained at the institution saying the university stand among the best in terms of security, academic standard and infrastructural development.
Earlier the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Fatima Mukhtar said 52 students graduated with first class degrees in the 2019/2020 academic session.
Giving a breakdown of the classes of degrees Mukhtar said that a total of 786 students graduated in 19 different programmes.
” Of the number 52 made First Class, 291 made Second Class Upper division, while 338 graduated in the Second Class Lower Division”.
The vice chancellor said 105 of the graduates were in the Third Class category.
“Of the 52 with the first class honours degree, 15 were in Biotechnology, 14 from Microbiology, six from Computer Science, one in Forestry and Wildlife Management, one each in Criminology and Security Studies and Economics ,” she added.
Similarly the Pro-Chancellor of the university Alhaji Ibrahim Akuyam said the management had adhered to the committee system in addressing critical issues.
“This strategy enabled the full participation of all relevant stakeholders and at the end resulted in excellent industrial relations in addition to other successes, ” he said.
Arewa affairs correspondent learned that the program started from 21st to 22nd February, 2020 as Pre-convocation and convocation respectively.
In his paper presentation the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has tasked Nigerian youth to explore what he called the tremendous opportunities for getting well-paying jobs and lucrative entrepreneurship that abound in the world.
He was delivering a pre-convocation lecture titled “Facing the next decade” at the Federal University Dutse (FUD), in Jigawa state, yesterday as part of activities marking the 5th convocation ceremony of the institution.
Professor Osinbajo said, “Anyone will be able to accept those jobs and those opportunities without even having to move from your own country, in some cases, without even leaving your own home.”
He said there would be true international marketplace of ideas, talents and opportunities but for one to access that marketplace, one needs to become, in many senses, a global citizen, and a lot of that would be by one’s own effort in terms of self-education and self-development.
Osinbajo said the youth must accept what technology brought, saying the greater the acceptance, its adaptation and application to new ideas, the more successful the nation was likely to be.
He said the difference between poverty and wealth, mediocrity and high achievements, is the creativity and willingness to add value, adding that those who process and add value always become wealthier that those to merely produce traditionally.
He suggested areas such as using the internet; content production of 3D and 2D animation; virtual effect and virtual reality for entertainment and media; cyber security; 3D printing as well as data science for the youth to explore.
Osinbajo congratulated the university for the Achievements it recorded within less than a decade of its existence.

Ali Sa’adu Birnin Kudu (Former Governor of jigawa), Hon.farouk Adamu Aliyu Birnin Kudu, Sen. Sankara, Alh.Musa Majiya (Founder of Khadija University Majia), Government parastatals and elders from all states respectively among others.
