The Captain of the ship alone without active roles and supports from his competent crew could not sail to it’s final destination. The sailors will find it difficult to cross a turbulent waters when the Captain became weak, confused or even loose control of the ship and the crew. This is the situation Nigeria is facing under the leadership of his Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR and Commander-in-Chief of the Arm Forces of Nigeria.
In the history of Nigeria from independence to date, there is no person under military and civilian administrations that held all the strategic positions like President Muhammadu Buhari from the lowest to the highest command. In addition to these, he was a Governor, a Minister and a Head of State and later Chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund and now a President of Federal Republic of Nigeria serving a second term, which no Nigerian dead or alive is privileged to hold such positions like him.
PMB had a good image home and abroad due to his outstanding qualities of honesty and integrity which endeared him to the minds of overwhelming majority of the masses as tested and trusted person.
The coming of PMB, people thought the messiah has come that will put Nigeria on a right direction particularly as opposition leader then he succeeded in convincing Nigerians that our party and leaders of PDP are corrupt and looters.
Soon than later after he took over, Nigerians realized that difference between APC and PDP is Buhari. Indeed is a track record of PMB he was never found wanting in all the positions he holds in the past but same could not be applied or said to his appointees and those close to him.
The recent postponement of new students matriculation for the first time in the history of Federal University Dutse as a result of staff protests, due to double pension deductions is a clear indication and testimony that both appointees of PDP and APC are birds of the same feathers, but in Federal University Dutse the pioneer Vice-Chancellor appointed by former President his Excellency Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR in person of Professor J.D. Amin is far ahead of Professor Fatima Batul appointed by PMB in terms of competence, experience, academic recognition at home and abroad as a goal getter.
As a former student of FUD I am highly disturbed to see that the most stable university among those established by former President is suddenly facing internal crisis that will likely affect teaching and learning to create tense atmosphere.
The press briefing and radio report from indaranka held by the Vice-Chancellor to defend herself exposed the incomptence of PMB appointees and by extension his own incompetence because they are acting on his behalf. From what transpires between the unions and the management at the initial stage when confronted with complaints of the suspected double pension the University Council setups a committee to investigate the matter and report back. The committee performed the tasks assigned to it and submitted it’s report to University Council and recommended for the refunds. The conducive atmosphere and tranquility in the campus suddenly changed to tensed one due to the decision of the council to form another committee to investigate the matter again going to the same offices visited by the previous committee which the unions rejected and resulted into the present situation that forced the University Management to suspend the matriculation till further notice.
One funniest thing in the current impasse between the management and the unions is that, the University Council who’s tenure expired and no formal announcement for extension setups the second committee which it has no power because their tenure expires. This could not happen even in primary school board to act in this terrible way.
One obvious thing is the desperation of the University Council to hold power at all cost.
As someone suggested if PMB is serious determines to fight corruption he must call his appointees to account for what was budgeted to their respective department and how they spent monies.
I am advising Mr President to do that before the APC ship finally sink into the water.
We thank God PMB of 2015 is not the same with PMB of 2019 if you know you know the failures of APC at all levels is preparing grounds for PDP’s victory in 2023. The silence of PMB on his appointees is a clear sign of leadership weaknesses.
