In the history of Nigerian politics nobody enjoys popular grassroots supports more than you Sir, including your opponents. The overwhelming majority believes in your ability, determination and readiness to take Nigeria to the highest not even next or upper level.
We have no doubt on your abilities to do your best in securing the lives and properties of Nigerians against crime and security threats in all their ramifications. As a retired General, you know the right things to do to put all the necessary measures and machineries in motion to save Nigeria and Nigerians.
At the inception of your government, you tried your best to cripple the activities of Boko-Haram by liberating the local government areas under their control and occupation. Normalcy gradually returned in the places that suffers bombblasts and suicide attacks. Road blocks that became a permanent features on our major highways and cities disappeared.
As a supporter and loyalist of PDP, I commended your efforts several times for the relative peace that returned to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and other states in the northeast that were once devastated by the Boko-Haram insurgency. The like of Kano, Kaduna, Niger and Abuja that became high-risks places due to frequent bombblasts that consumes hundreds lives of innocent Nigerians and properties worth billions of naira, once again became secured. Our markets, banks, places of worship, schools, motorpacks and other public places of people’s gatherings became regular targets of boko-haram but the frequencies of the attacks reduces considerably.
However, the expectations of the general public is that, the relative peace that returned should be maintained and improve progressively, but what we are currently witnessing in the northeast is the resurgence of boko-haram insurgency that once makes the areas affected dangerous to live.
Your Excellency Sir, like any other Nigerians that were shocked after they watched, heard and read your response when you received the delegations of Niger state that complained to you on the rising incidences of banditry and kidnapping, I was terribly shocked to hear that you don’t know that the killings by boko-haram still persists.
Your Excellency Sir, I never thought even a private soldier far away in Lagos do not know that the killings by boko-haram still persists talkless of you as the Commander-in-Chief you displays and exposed your ignorance on the deterioration of security in the northeast and by extension other parts of Nigeria.
As a security professional upon hearing your response two things quickly come to my mind. Firstly, your service chiefs and other heads of paramilitary are not sending the security reports without any form of coloring, distortions or manipulations of fact in order to know the facts and realities on the grounds on successes achieved and challenges in the fight against crime and general insecurities. Secondly, it maybe that you dont usually monitor the activities, chiefs of security forces strictly and gave them freehands to operates as they wishes.
What is clear now to Nigerians and the world over is that, the long promises you made to Nigerians on security, stability and prosperity are no longer guaranteed and provided by you Sir.
The menace of rural banditry and kidnapping particularly in the peaceful geopolitical zone of northwest became a history. These problems forced people to watched their movements and imposed self restrictions on travelling for fear of kidnappers that are operating with high-level audacity which forced people to migrate from their home towns and villages or risk their lives and properties.
Your excellency Sir, I am appealing to you as a leader that listen to do what is right and needful in performing your constitutional obligations to protect Nigerians against internals and external threats.
I hope you will find time to watch and listen to all your previous reactions and responses during our time on insecurities which we hopes when you come to power the issues of insecurities will be things of the past.
Many people believes insecurities persists because the families of the ruling elites were not affected. The tunes and the dance on the fight against crime and insecurities will definitely change if their families were directly affected by these security challenges that makes the lives and properties of Nigerians worthless.
As a Muslim I am using this medium to remind you as part of the burdens of a leader you must do everything humanly possible to protect the lives and properties of your subjects.
Your Excellency Sir, you can claimed ignorance infront of your visitors, but you cannot claim same before Almighty Allah SWT. Sir, whosoever loved you will tell you that the levels of insecurities is getting out of control under your watch. We were condemned by you and your teaming supporters, now the same problems you accused and condemned us is making life difficult and unbearable for Nigerians. You can take swift and urgent corrective measures within the limited time that left for you.
I hopes and prayed that you and your teaming supporters will look at my open letter with open minds with a view of reviewing the operational strategies and procedures of combating crime and insecurities in Nigeria.
