Member representing Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro has called Federal Government to repair infrastructures and facilities damaged by ecological problems in his constituency.
The member made this called while Presenting a motion ” Need to Repair Infrastructures Damaged by Ecological Problems in Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency and to Prevent further loss of Nigerian Lives and Properties” on Tuesday at green chamber of the House of Representatives.
He said ” Bauchi State is strategically placed as the most peaceful and populous State in the North-East zone of Nigeria and the increasing population of internally-displaced persons settling in the State from neighbouring States find support in Bauchi State’s economy”.
The member further said ” that the State’s economy is dominated by agriculture, particularly livestock rearing and trading. Specialised livestock markets are organised and operated weekly across the State”.
Speaking further Mansur Manu extolled strategic role of Soro market in driven Bauchi State economy.
” Soro Market is one of such specialised livestock markets and adjudged the largest livestock market in Bauchi State.
It is estimated that over 10,000 cattle, lambs, and chickens are traded weekly in the market”.
He expressed worried how erosions and floods ravaged many roads, bridges and culvets hence for urgent repairs.
” I am worried that almost all access roads to the market have been lost to erosion and floods. Bridges that form critical stretch of the access roads have completely collapsed or degraded and unsafe for use due to these ecological problems.
To compound the problem, during the yearly rainy season, several industrious merchants lose their lives while attempting to cross streams and lakes leading to the market. These are Nigerians looking to provide for their families and support their communities”.
Hon Soro added that ” unless the deficit of critical infrastructure supporting the market is addressed,
a) The economic wellbeing of the industrious people of Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency and indeed Bauchi State will suffer immeasurably.
b) The needless loss of lives and permanent injuries to well-meaning, peaceful Nigerian will continue ”
After extensive deliberations at the plenary the members of green chamber have the motion and passed the prayers raised by Hon . Soro..
The resolution passed are ” 1. Urged the Ecological Fund Office to upgrade and rehabilitate existing infrastructure to support the operations of the market. Specifically, the rural roads washed away by erosion and floods should be rehabilitated to facilitate the evacuation of goods and safeguard lives: The affected roads are:
c) Soro – Ganjuwa – Miya – Zara Road
d) Lanzai – Papa Road
e) Dabe – Nassarawa Road
f) Yautare – Tauya Road
g) Soro – Gungura – Shila Road
The House has mandated the House Committees on Ecological matters and legislative compliance to ensure adherence” .
