Reading is the ability to decipher the written form of a particular object or subject for the purpose of knowing something which you did not know before.
Reading is the complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive meaning. It is a form of language processing.
Success in this process is measured as reading comprehension. Reading is a means of language acquisition, communication, and sharing information and ideas.
The symbols are typically visual (written or printed) but may be tactile (Braille). Like all languages, it is a complex interaction between text and reader, shaped by prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and the language community—which is culturally and socially situated.
Readers use a variety of reading strategies to decode (to translate symbols into sounds or visual representations of speech) and comprehend.
Readers may use context clues to identify the meaning of unknown words. Readers integrate the words they have read into their existing framework of knowledge or schema.
There are types of reading which are not speech based writing systems, such as music notation or pictograms. The common link is the interpretation of symbols to extract the meaning from the visual notations or tactile signals (as in the case of Braille).
One is expected to read deeply before he can explore new ideas of knowing something which was not known to him/her.
Through reading one can be educationally sagacious by knowing the historical data of the past.
Reading is accorded important place in many civilizations, such as Greek, Roman, Chinese and the Islamic civilizations for millennia. For example, Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. is known as the leader of all prophets. His first assignment is that God required him to Read !!!
Since then, reading is considered as one of the essential activities in the Islamic civilization. It is used to uphold social values, order and to get more knowledge of every single object, subject, living and non living things.
On this note, I implore my fellow youths to try as much as they can to imbibe the reading habit in life and consider it their habits.
Reading culture is means of development. Take a peek at developed countries where 70 percent of their population are highly educated just because of the knowledge they’ve acquired from their forefathers. In view of the above, one is expected to read deeply in order to know who they are, why they are created, what are the tasks assigned to them by their Creater.
Aeons are the days when human being are living like animals (Primitive stages). Thanks be to Almighty God For The Revelation sent down to us… Hence, we are learned people through reading.
