The Federal Government has been urged to sustain the activities of Social Investment Program for the benefit of youths and economic prosperity in the country.
The Chairman House Committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon Abdulkareem Abdulkareem made this called when he led the members of his committee in a courtesy visit to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq in her office on Tuesday.
He said ” I will like to commend the Federal Government for creating social Investiment program which include the Npower, school feeding program, conditional transfer among others.
These programs have yielded a desired results and there is need for sustaining the initiative which we believe it will boost socio-economic well-being of the citizenry”.
Abdulkareem further called on the Federal Government to recruit more youths in the program so as compliment it’s efforts in health, education and agricultural sector.
” I am also appealing to your able ministry to facilitate for the recruitment of more graduate in to the scheme which will along way in achieving goal 1 of sustainable development goals by 2020″.
Responding the minister commended the leadership of the Nigerian Youth Parliament for appointing members of the committee and pledge for partnership with apex youths legislative body.
” I am delighted to receive you in this ministry, the leadership of Nigerian Youth Parliament has made a wise composition of this committee.
Our ministry is ever ready to partner with you so as to move Nigerian youths forward, in addition to that I am enjoying your committee to reach young generation to come up with programs that will be beneficial ”
The Chairman was accompanied by Mary Touranana , Daniju Sultan and Femi Ajirotutu.
NYP Committee on Special Duties partners with John Hopkins University.
In a related development the Chairperson on Special Duties , Esther Ogbuefi , Chairman House Committee on Petroleum Resources and Niger Delta Affairs , Hon . Claude Orike Ndubisi and Member House Committee on Health Maureen Yobo represented the Nigerian Youth Parliament at a training on disaster management organised by Rivers State Ministry of Special Duties in collaboration with John Hopkins University.
The leader of NYP team Esther Ogbuefi said ” It was an interesting sections we called for partnership from all relevant stake holders in emergency rescue/ disaster management work hard towards timely provision of relief items” .
Ogbuefi further said ” Subsequently, we were able to secure partnership with representatives of John Hopkins University to train youths and engage them in emergency response management”.
Meanwhile the Rivers State Ministry for Special duties assured their support and collaboration in subsequent programs and activities of the Ministry.
