Bagudu receives Interim Report for the establishment of Fed Varsity of Agriculture Zuru


Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu this Friday received members of Interim Management Committee of the newly established Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru at the Council Chamber, Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

The committee was led by the Chairman of the Implementation Committee, who is the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru.

In a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari.

The Interim Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Bello Zaki Abubakar Gwandu and other members were at the Government House for formal introduction to the Governor and people of Kebbi state.

The Interim Chairman Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru commended President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting to the bill setting up the University of Agriculture, Zuru as well as the Minister for Justice Abubakar Malami SAN, for processing the bill for assent and Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono.

He extended similar accolades to Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah who sponsored the bill, the two other Senators from Kebbi State, Muhammadu Adamu Aliero, Senate Leader, Dr. Yahaya Abdullahi, Members of House of Representatives, officials of Kebbi State Government, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, National Universities Commission, TetFund and JAMB for their collective and individual effort towards the establishment of the University.

He was full of praise for Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for providing the necessary support and encouragement for the take-off of the institution and his good counsel.

Professor Abdu Abdullahi Zuru would want the state government to provide financial support and logistics to facilitating the commencement of academic activities, saying that members of the interim management committee would visit stakeholders to gather their input and advice on the smooth take-off of the university.

The Interim Vice-Chancellor Professor Bello Zaki Abubakar Gwandu also told the governor that they were at the Government House to register their appreciation and gratitude to the Governor as well as acquaint him about the identity of the members for successful take-off.

In response, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu expressed happiness about the visit, and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the bill establishing the Federal University of Agriculture Zuru. He thanked the Minister of Agriculture as well as stakeholders for their contribution to actualizing the setting up of the university and efforts to begin lectures by September, 2020.

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said he would have want the university to take over all the assets and liabilities of the former College of Agriculture, including structures and staff.

He told the committee that all requests presented would be looked into with a view to ensuring the take-off and immediate impact of the university to the people of the state.

The governor also advised them to visit all Emirates of Gwandu, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru, to hold consultations with wide variety of stakeholders including Emirs.
