With total submission to the will of Allah, I am shocked by the death of a RARE GEM, Dr. Yaya Alkali.
He is a true definition of a patriot, a mentor and a father to me. I will never forget my last encounter with him when I called him to discuss on how to establish a filter center for the FTH Gombe in Dukku Local Government and he welcomed the idea and even agreed to receive me in his office whenever I come to Gombe in order to discuss further how we can go about it.
His simplicity and humbleness makes me doubt the position he was holding as the CMD of FTH Gombe.
He is so generous and humble and that is one thing I always admired about him.
Dr. Yaya had lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation and he had lived legendarily and insha Allah he died a legend. May he be rewarded with Jannatul Firdaus.
I remember I came back from a National Assignment in Ghana on Friday night and the Saturday evening I checked up on him in Nizamiye Hospital, Abuja where I met another definition of simplicity: his son, Bashir Yaya Alkali.
His mother, I called her Mama Zariyatu Introduced me to him for the first time and we exchanged contacts as brothers hoping to continue as friends like our parents and I left there wishing Baffa Yaya quick recovery.
It was an early morning when I woke up to the news of his death and I felt as if I was still sleeping and may be dreaming.
He passed away, but the spirit of his dedication and commitment to community services will pass on spiritually and will be upheld by another upcoming patriot insha Allah.
His lost is not only a lost to Alkali Modibbo’s family or a lost only for Dukku community or a lost only for Gombe state but to the entire country.
Therefore, I want to use this opportunity to, once again extend my condolences to the entire people of Dukku, Gombe and Nigeria at large. May Allah give us the fortitude to bear the lost.
