Don urges Govt to employ proactive measures to fight insecurity

Government has been urged to employ proactive measures to end security challenges in the country.

A University Lecturer  from Sociology Department Federal University Dutse, Usman Suleiman Sarki made the call while speaking to our campus correspondent.

He said security remain the topmost priority of every society as provides a conducive atmosphere for all human activities.

Sarki added that ” Nigeria is confronted with series of problems undermining the security of its citizens which include but not limited to terrorism, kidnapping, armed banditry and farmers-harders conflict among others”.

He further said several efforts made by government in the warring zone did not yielded a desired results stressing that the root causes of the problems were not adequately identified and addressed accordingly.

Sarki attributed high rate of unemployment and poverty as some of drivers of insecurity in the country.

” It is quite clear that people are facing a lot of difficulties due high level of unemployment and poverty which are strong predisposing factors of the insecurity in the country”.
” Thus, in order to adequately address the problem of insecurity in the country, people particularly youths must be provided with employment opportunities to prevent them from falling into poverty that pushed them into different crimes that pose threats to the security of the country.
Moreover, the security agencies needs to be strengthen through the provision of adequate training and modern logistics that will enhance their performance in combating all the security challenges” he said.

He called on government to review the strategies of fighting the scourge of insecurity in the country.

”Itis pertinent to make it clear that, government needs to review its strategies of fighting these security related challenges with a view to effectively deal with them” he added.
