|Sokoto Female Councilors Forum together with the First Lady of Sokoto State|
Earlier speaking the Chairperson of the forum, Hajiya Hafsatu Ibrahim said they were at the government house to felicitate with the wife of the governor on Eid-El-Kabir celebration and also re-introduce the members of the forum to her.
She also expressed their appreciation to the Governor for the inclusion of women in his government which led to the emergence of 72 female Councilors from across the state, which she described as a first in the history of the State.
3 female Councilors each from 22 local government areas and 5 from 1 local government area .
In her response, the wife of the governor thanked the female Councilors for the visit and called on them to unite for the development of women in the state.
The Wife of the governor further advised them on the need and merits to carry all the women in the state along , irrespective of political affiliations.
Hajiya Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, also informed the gathering of plans by her Foundation “MMAWT Legacy Initiative” to roll out various developmental initiatives ranging from skill acquisition, Healthcare campaigns and a rigorous campaign against rape and child molestation amongst others.
She also pledged her support to the forum which she described as a step towards the unity of women in the state and charged them to educate women especially those in the rural areas on government policies targeted at them and the opportunities available to them.
The highlight was a gratification of the 65 year old female councilor of Yabo local government area , the Non indigene woman of Igbo extraction and those below 30years of age chosen as female councilors for other local government areas !
She buttressed the determination of Rt.Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s plans to include women in governance and community building .
Meanwhile on her part the state commissioner of social welfare and community development, professor Aishatu Madawaki, commended the female Councilors for the foresight which led to the creation of the forum which she said if properly managed will facilitate an accelerated development of women in the state.
In a related development the wives of the members of the Sokoto State House of assembly, also paid a Sallah visit to the wife of the governor.
